One of the main challenges for border authorities is to make crossing borders as smooth as possible for travellers while detecting any illegal activity at the same time. This is why the EU is setting up ETIAS, the European Travel Information and Authorisation System. The new system will grant authorisation to travellers who do not need a visa to visit the Schengen area.
